Global Economics Day

12 JUNE 2018

The world’s economy is set to almost double in the next two decades. How will your business realise long-term sustainable growth? How will technology transform your business and industry? And what jobs will we all be doing?

With keynote speakers and panellists from business, academia and government, the 2018 International Business Festival’s first day explored the impact of our rapidly changing global economy.

The event examined how to secure stability and opportunity in a changing world and showcased international market opportunities. Delegates met with future partners, buyers and investors and worked to develop profitable, meaningful relationships.

Brace yourself. The world of work is set for fundamental change. Leading global business analysts predict that:

    - Nearly half of today’s jobs will be gone in under a decade (Oxford University)

    - 70% of business leaders will need a new or different talent base to remain competitive in the future (PWC / World Economic Forum)

    - The number of people over 65 will increase by 42% in 20 years, compared to just a 2% increase in people aged between 16 and 64 (Age UK)

    - Freelance and gig economy work will soon rival permanent jobs (Deloitte / MIT)

Our day host, BBC's Tanya Beckett, introduces today’s keynote speaker. Anthony Behan. Anthony is an Industry Leader within IBM’s Watson IoT Division and advisor to the European Commission.

Anthony’s vital address will present a compelling argument on the politics of technology, outlining how machines have been historically replacing our jobs for years and why it’s essential that we get over our A.I fears and prejudices, if we want the technology to really help mankind to flourish.

This forward-thinking and frank session will examine how can businesses act now to safeguard a prosperous future, secure tomorrow’s talent today and help combat the desolation of generations of jobs by spearheading initiatives to ensure business growth is sustainable.
