GLOBAL BUSINESS FESTIVAL THINKS BIG WITH £1BN TARGET
(Max Steinberg CBE and Chair of 2018 International Business Festival)
A million isn't cool. You know what's cool? A billion.
Our International Business Festival has smashed some pretty imposing targets since our inaugural Festival back in 2014, but like all great business minds, success only spurs us on.
This week we announced our ambitious new plan to drive the total value of trade and investment we've enabled since 2014 up to £1bn - a nice round figure, that's sure to impress.
This aspiration was announced to selected international media as we revealed key programme details of our next Festival (12-28 June 2018, Liverpool, UK) and went live with our shiny-new, but streamline website. (That's the one you're on now BTW)
Ahead of the announcement, we spoke to our boss and Festival Chairman Max Steinberg CBE, to find out more, he said:“Our Festival consistently delivers enormous benefits to the UK and beyond. To date, the International Business Festival has delivered £600m of additional trade and investment to the UK economy.
“It's our ambition that for our third festival we push the total value of deals done to £1bn. My message to companies is clear: whether you're based in Bangalore or Birkenhead, if you want to be part of with the Festival then let's do business.”
Our next Festival comes at an even more opportune time for our nation's businesses big and small, taking place as Brexit talks go into full swing and international trade takes centre stage at the forefront of national debate.
Held over three weeks at the 80,000-square foot Exhibition Centre Liverpool, our latest biennial Festival is set to attract small and medium-sized businesses – from across the Liverpool City Region and far beyond – who are looking to grow and explore export opportunities.
Our overarching aim is clear; to build on the success of last year's event, which attracted buyers and investors from 98 countries around the world and saw 500 UK companies secure exports of more than £87m.
Research into the impact of our Festival has revealed that around a third of Festival delegates in 2016 had been actively encouraged by the event to begin exporting or to explore opportunities in new overseas markets. So, if you're looking to take your business one big step further next year, you should sign-up now to receive programme updates and discounted ticket offers.
Our next International Business Festival will focus on nine core sectors which will drive the economy of the future – from health and life sciences to sustainable energy to creative industries – with specially curated theme days dedicated to each one. You can read more about these sectors here.
This means another round inspiring and engaging programme of expert panels, practical workshops and high-profile keynote addresses from thought leaders in their field of expertise.
But that's not all. For 2018 a greater number of businesses will also be able to take space on our Festival floor, exhibiting their products and services to Festival delegates in an expanded international marketplace alongside pavilions from countries, regions and cities with firm agreements from locations in India, China and mainland Europe.
(Top line stats on our Festival's success)
Now it's easy to crank up the hyperbole to bolster an event's reputation, pulling out impressive stats from some report, but for our Festival it's not just about the numbers. We're in regular contact with hundreds of businesspeople have already testified to the export gains achieved by attending the Festival in 2016.
"This effect was summed up nicely recently by Brian Wilkins of Knowsley-based security blind manufacturers Abbey Group:
“In the 12 months since we took part in the Festival we have significantly advanced our global profile – working towards high-value deals with prospective buyers in Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
"As a direct result of connections made at the 2016 event, we are now planning to expand our business and hire additional staff.”
Or to put it another way: Our Festival can be truly transformative for businesses and you should get involved.
